There a few ways you can tell if your clutch is failing.
Clutches that are failing are often said to be “slipping,” which is exactly the sensation drivers report. The clutch may feel as though it is not fully disengaging or engaging. Slippage will likely be more when the engine is dealing with a heavy workload, such as when accelerating to pass another vehicle, travelling uphill or pulling a trailer. As the clutch slips, it overheats and wears it even more; this not only makes the problem more noticeable but also adds damage
While all clutches inevitably wear down from use, noise from the clutch and jerking motions can indicate premature failure.
A slipping and failing clutch can have a distinct smell, a burning smell. If you notice this smell while driving then it is possible your clutch is failing.
